Byers Motorsports Crowds the Podium in Michigan
December 22, 2009- Byers Motorsports racers placed on the podium in 3 of the 4 classes that they entered at the Can-Am Challenge race in Gaylord, Michigan. The event took place at the beautiful Otsego Club & Resort where skiing and snowboarding took place right beside the track.
The Michigan circuit had some different classes than the CSRA circuit. Kyle competed in the Sport A (similar to CSRA Sport 600) and Sport B Sunday classes. He was on his game this weekend and got the hole-shot in almost every race that he competed in.
In Sport A, Kyle finished 4th, 7th and 3rd in the qualifying motos. At the start of the final, Kyle got squeezed out in the first corner. He picked a good line up the hill and made up some positions and finished 8th at the checkered.
In Sport B on Sunday, Kyle started off the day with a win leading from start to finish. He finished 3rd in Moto #2. He got a good start in the final which put him to the front and held on for a 2nd place finish.“It was a fun race. Lots of air time and the sled handled great” said Kyle after the Final.
Jamie had a strong weekend in both the Stock and Open class finding the fast lines and getting him to the front. He qualified 2nd for the Stock final with Moto finishes of two 1st’s and a second place. The stock final started with a very controversial start. Instead of re-starting the race due to the jump start by 2 riders, the green flag was waved and the 2 riders were to fall to the back of the pack. The Michigan circuit handles their starts differently than in the CSRA and had caught Jamie off guard. He was mid pack at the start of the race and picked very fast and smooth lines to work his way to the front and making a final straightaway pass for a 3rd place podium finish. “The start threw me off a bit but once the flag dropped I knew I had to make up time and battle hard” said Jamie.
The Open class was almost a mirror image of the Stock class. In the Motos, Jamie finished 2nd, 1st and 6th after being hit in a corner and throwing him off the sled. The good moto # 1 and 2 finishes gave him the 4th qualifying position for the Open final. Jamie got pinched on the start and went into the 2nd corner in 6th making up some positions on the straight. Another great run by Jamie had paid off crossing the finish line in 3rd.
The team has a few weeks to prepare themselves for the next CSRA race in Downtown Owen Sound, January 16-17, 2010. We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and safe and Happy New Year.
